Task 4 - Evaluation of video

To successfully evaluate my Advertisement on SLAPON watch I had to first gather audience feedback on my advert. By doing this I created a survey on Survey monkey and wrote up a more detailed required questionnaire, which gave me a better and more detailed account on how well the advert was made in the eye of the public.

The survey monkey allowed me to have a rough idea on what was good about my work and what was poor. The questionnaire was helpful because I got some positive feedback from it, and there was more than just a one word answer. I got many people to take the questionnaire so I can have as many answers as probably.

These were the best methods because I could produce many copies for the questionnaires and also the survey can be taken online, and most people are online in todays society. Also I could have asked people face to face, but that is just a method that consumes time, and the methods above that I used are much more efficient.

What I found about my video from the feedback is that the message was clear to the people that watched it and that it mostly encouraged people to go out and purchase the product. Also that my editing was good, but could be improved, from this comment I can know what to do different if I was going to edit another film or advertisement again. My editing was good, because it made the whole of the advertisement run smoothly and made the different shots link in well together, also the cross dissolves was really good because it put a good effect in the whole advertisement and was a good effect to link shots together as well as not having the effect.

My opinion of the advertisement is that is was well made. however there was continuity era, this was at the end of my advert when my actor stops outside the door, as if he was waiting for me to give him the ok to come in. what should of happened is that the actor should have moved out of the shot to make it more realistic. Also from my audience feedback it says that it shows that the advert clearly is about my product SLAPON watch, and therefore my advert was a success because adverts main purpose is to show the product and make it clear what it is to the public. The music also went well because of the positive feedback, and no one would have changed the music because it went well with the flow of the advertisement.

What I need to improve is that there could of been more of a voice over, because it is quite until the end and it could use with a narrative and a close up shot with the SLAPON watch and some words could be said about it, this is what I am going to do if I am ever going to make another advertisement. I believe that this will make the advert much better to watch and would give out more information about my product. Also I made some scenes brighter so you could easily see whats happening, but i should have for the beginning but it would have gone against what I planned for so I should plan something else for the future. Overall I think my advertisement was a success.

Task 3 - SLAPON watch survey monkey results

Here are the results for the ratings on the advertisement on my product SLAPON watch, from these results I can work out how successful the advert was produced to promote my product and here are the results of them;

Here is the first question, as you can see more people rated how good the text sections are at a number 7 the most. Half of the people that took the survey chose 7.

For the second question I asked how well the advertisement was edited. Like above half of the people that took this survey chose 8 and the rest, 5, 7 and 9.

The 3rd question asked how clear the advert was about SLAPON watch and here are the results.

The 4th question asked the public how well the music i chose went with the advert and out of ten again these are the results. Most people chose 8.

The second before last question ask how well my actor performed and 33% chose 6, and another 33% chose 7, the rest chose 4 and 9.

For the last question i asked how well the voice over went with my advertisement, and half of the people that took the survey chose 10, which i am very pleased with, the rest voted for 6 and 8.

At the end of the survey I am very happy with the results I collected.

Task 1 - Pre-production documents evaluation

Before I created my advertisement i had to first plan my pre production documents this included, the proposal, production schedule part one, production schedule location visit, production schedule call sheet, production schedule contact details, contingency plan, Risk assessment, production budget and production diary. All of these help me plan out my advertisement and helped make it go according to plan. I am going to explain how each of them helped me through my planning and filming of my product.

Production schedule part one

This lets me know what dates I started my work and the dates I have completed them. This was helpful because it lets me know what I done and when, and how to date my work to put it in order, I can refer to this for help, so therefore I found it very helpful.

This document is also useful for the client to able to see when each stage of the production is going to be completed, so they can have an idea of when the product will be finished. This document is really important because it gave me a deadline to work to, and it is professional and important to meet deadlines, however, i didn't quite meet the deadline for the final version of the advert as the filming took longer than i expected and so it put back the rest of the schedule by about two weeks.

Production schedule location visit

This gives me a clear in sight of how to get to my location, all of the roads that i could take there and  it also shows the room I am going to be filming in. This was not helpful for me because where the location was I already new the roads and routes to get to the location. However in a real life situation this document would be vital to make sure all the cast and crew knew where to go and how to get there on the day of the filming.

Production schedule call sheet

The call sheet is the wholes plan of the day in which i am going to be shooting my advertisement. It it a great way to stay organised when it comes to the day it lets me know where everyone is going to be on the day, what times they are going to be there. This document was very useful as i could give a copy to each member of the cast and crew and then be sure that all the people involved making the film and knew when and where they had to be on the day of the filming and what they had to bring with them.
However, one of the crew was not reliable as I thought they were going to be, as they were late which delayed the filming. So this goes to show no matter how well you plan and prepare, things don't always go according to plan.

Production schedule contact details

This document was one of the most useful as it meant I had the contact details of my actor just incase I need them before i start filming, this can be from rehearsing dates to anything i need him/she for. Also incase of emergencies. I have also put my number down just case i am needed by any member of my crew or by my actor. This was really important on the day of the filming, because on the first day we had to cancel, and I had to let everyone know.

Contingency plan

My contingency plan highlights the potential problems in which could go wrong, such as equipment breaking and my actor being ill, or my transport not arriving on time. I have also on this production said what I am going to do if these problems were to occur.

Risk assessment - My risk assessment was one of the most important plans that I had to make, because it highlighted the potential risks and hazards that could be a problem whilst I would be filming my advertisement. On the risk assessment it had a list in a table of all the risks that could put any of the people on set where I was filming in harms way, and the ways I could deal with them if anything went wrong. This was helpful because it will help me overcome any potential problems on the day of the filming.

Production budget

The Production budget is the prices of my equipment and ever I need to pay for on the day, and the total production budget of the whole advertisement. I did find that it helped but it wasn't really necessary as i knew what was the budget was all together, it can be helpful next time if this was done earlier on.

Storyboard

This should have been really useful as it outlines all the different shots I needed to film on the day and gave me an exact idea of how my advert was going to look. However I only story boarded ten shots on my storyboard, and so really what I have done i have storyboarded about every 6th shot from my advert and so I did not storyboard as much detail as I should have done. A proper storyboard should be much longer and have more detail on it then I one I produced. For my next product I am going to make sure I storyboard each shot individually and also I will produce a shot list and this should make my filming day more productive.

Task Three - Post production

I had to do many different task to complete my Final advertisement because to make it how I wanted it to be like required many different effects and edits. I am going to to show you different pictures of what I did to edit and what steps I took to make it what it is. I had to first upload my video from my camera to the imac computer that I was going to use. Here is a number of screen shots of my work on final cut express.

This is a screen shot of what my editing looks like on final cut express. As you can see, there is the film in blue, and below the audio is green and you can see there is multiple layers.

Also there are effect that I used, such as cross fading. This makes the end of the scene run smoothly into the next one, or to close a scene.

When the film was uploaded to my imac, I then had to save it and open it up onto final cut express to edit and view what I have filmed. And then had to select what parts I wanted to use for my film, for example cutting out all of the parts that i didn't need, like mistakes etc. Then I had to choose and edit the audio because it was in the wrong place and I had to place it in the right place so it could go with my film, this was the case for the alarm clock sound.

To put the song that I chose into my film I had to select it from iTunes because it was saved there, then drag it to my final cut express window then it would be there and or I had to do is edit what part of the song that I wanted.

In this screen grab, For a part of my advertisement i has to match the darkness and brightness with all of the parts. There was one scene where the lighting was darker than the others, so i had to use this tool to match to to the other parts of my advert so there was no changes which could be noticed in my advert.

In this screen grab i had to export my advert by going to file, export and clicking quicktime movie, by doing this, it enabled me to upload it to the internet easily. If i done it straight from final cut express the file would have been to big to put onto the internet.

In this screen grab I had to import the music so my advert could have music with it. First I had to go to file then instead of export which i used to make my advert easily updatable to the internet, you go to import then folder, then I chose the music I wanted for my advert.

In This screen grab I had to create the slide which would have my text in the advert. Instead of using final cut express i used livetype to create it then i imported it into my advert, and placed it where i wanted to be. As you can see the text in the screen shot is in my final piece of work.

In this screen grab i had to introduce the advert with my name and the title of the advert, this is so it can be identified as my piece of work.

This is the tool that i used for my voice over at the end of my advertisement, first you have to go up to the top and click onto voice over, and this will come up. All you will have to do is click the record button and you will be counted down to say the voice over and This was used for the saying in my advertisement, "choose the easy way!'.

This is my finished work, ready to view onto Youtube. I just went through the stages of making a youtube account to post this on youtube.

Task Two - Production

I am going to write a detailed account on how i filmed all of my footage i required to successfully produce my television advertisement.
The first thing i did was sign out all of the equipment i need for the filming. this including the camera and the tripod where the camera is placed. To do this i have to sign a book on a page with a number. That number would be the number of that camera I am going to use.

I will have to sign in my name and the date I have taken it, and once i am finished with it will have to sign it back in, stating the time and date I done this. Here is a picture of me whilst doing this.

For my shots i had to find the right area and space for the lights, so I could be able to see and view my shots. I my advert the first couple of seconds the lights are very dark this is because it is morning and the man has been asleep. So it would make sense that the room will be dark.

Then for the next couple of seconds the lights come on and this allows you to see clearly what is happening during the advert. As you can see here the light has came on and you can see the actor very clearly.

I instructed my actor do go along with the plan that i made. This was helpful because it allowed me to run and perform the filming as smoothly as possible. So you will have to always have to plan before you start your filming. I also had to consider the health and safety of my actor and myself. By doing this had to make sure that everything was planned where he was going to go and what step he was going to make just in case he hurts him self and puts anyone else in danger of harm.

So I had to take note on what could be a potential harm like my actor running down the stairs, so it had to be practised just in case something happened to him so It had to be a step by step guide on what to do to make sure things went according to plan.

At the end of the filming, no one got hurt and therefore was a successful day of filming, and I was happy of what film I had.

Call sheet

Here is my Call sheet for my Slapon Watch advert. It explains the times and dates of everything that is vital on the day of filming. It explains who the crew is the times we going to be filming.

Saturday, 4 February 2012

Location visit

Here is my location visit sheet. I done this because like all of my other pre production work, i have to know and highlight where it is that i am going to be filming and the potential problems about the place that I have decided to shoot the advertisement.

Friday, 3 February 2012

Contact details

Here is the contact details for the whole project. Here as you can see are the numbers of mine and the actors numbers who will be in the advert. This so If i need my actor for anything I can easily ring him by looking at this contact sheet.

Risk Assessment

Here is my Risk Assessment for my SLAPON Watch Advert. Risk assessments are always carried out whilst something is being done. This is because it lets people know that i know what the potential risks are and the solutions i have come up with to handle them.

Task 3 - Production Research

In order to produce an outstanding advertisement I have had to carry out a great deal production research.  I first had to decide how to I am going to film my advertisement, what equipment i would need.

I decided to do it all together and show it as a split screen so you will be seeing both actors at the same time. So there will be two sides on the screen. i am going to use HDV cam recorder, here is a print screen of the one i am going to use. This is going to be roughly £50. This camera is from Hireacamera.com

Here is the tripod that i am going to use of the same website for my cam recorder. The price of this item will roughly be £20 to £30. Also this item is also from Hireacamera.com.

My location

My location for my filming is in two of the actors house. i chose this because my two actors can feel comfortable and plus it will be a cheap budget. so it will not expensive which is a good help because it will give me more of a budget to spend on equipment I will need to film my advertisement. The time I am going to spend in my house. I will not need to have permission to film in these location's because they are owned by the actors that will be in my advert. That is a benefit because it saves me a lot of time

My cast

I have chosen two actors that i know who would pull off and act very well, and this is something I need to complete my advertisement. The location will be these two actors house's. This would be much easier and realistic.  Theres going to be no members of the public in my advertisement.

Props

In my advert i am going to have two main props. One will be My Slapon watch product and another one will be a ordinary watch. another prop will be an alarm clock. There is not many other main props that the actors will be using in my advert.

Tuesday, 24 January 2012

Task 4 - Research potential regulations issues.

In order to make sure that my advertisement is past by the ASA and is not challenged by OFCOM i had to research into any regulation issue, such as;

  • Sexual nature early in the day.
  • Criminal behaviour
  • Underage drinking
  • Strong language
  • Any thing that is that misleading
  • False advertising
  • Copy right issues, using music that I haven't got permission for
I have investigated the ASA guidelines and i can not see any reason why my advertisement will cause offence. Here below as you can see, i have created an account for the kings of leon website so I could have permission to use one of their songs in my advertisement.

Monday, 23 January 2012

Task 2 - Storyboard

Shot 1.  In shot one, of the actors in going to be in bed, and the alarm clock is going to off. and the actor is going to wake up in a rush because he is going to be late for work.

Shot 2.  In this shot the actor is gonna wake up shocked because he's going to be late for his work. so he jumps out of bed.

Shot 3. in shot 3 the actor will be rushing to get ready and there will be a clock in the other side of the screen and the sound of a clock ticking will be playing to show that he is racing against time.

Shot 4. In shot 4 the person is all ready and dressed but the actor is going to forget something and that will be his watch.

Shot 5. In shot 5 the person is going to remember that it is his watch that he is forgetting. And will start to panic about it.

Shot 6. In shot 6 the actor is going to be struggling to get the watch on, and it will cause him to be late for work.

Shot 7. In shot 7 it is a new actor in a new house and he's going to trough all the stages but the watch is going to be a Slapon watch instead of an average one. Here the alarm is going to go off, and the man is going to wake up.

Shot 8.  The man wakes up in shock because he is late as well as the first actor. So its the same process. I will have to get the actor to acted really shocked and worried.

Shot 9. In this shot the actor is getting ready and is going to be racing against time like in shot 3.

Shot 10.  The once again like in shot 5 the actor is going to realise that his watch is missing just like in shot 5.

Shot 11. then the actor will remember he has a slapon watch and will know it would take a second to put on.

Shot 12. then the watch is going to be put on.

Shot 13. then the person is going to leave the house and go to work.
